“International Weeks” or “Staff Training Weeks” are programs at our partner universities where staff members exchange ideas on specific topics in the higher education sector. Workshops, presentations, networking events and cultural activities are organized for this purpose.

Verena Podlaha and Kerstin Katzlberger from our Center for International Education & Mobility visited partner universities of FHWien der WKW in the summer semester 2023 to take part in an International Week.

Travel Report Verena Podlaha

My days at the Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Vantaa, a suburb of Helsinki, were full of interesting and diverse conversations. The exchange with our colleague Christine Güttel, who was on site as a lecturer, was also enriching. Our students from the Tourism and Hospitality Management Study Programs and the Management & Entrepreneurship Study Programs benefit from an extensive company network, student-centered teaching/learning and innovative room design during their semester abroad.

I was also able to use this training to visit other partner universities in Helsinki (Metropolia UAS and Haaga Helia) and especially discuss the digitalization challenges entailed by Erasmus+. Besides the meaningful input (e.g. walking meetings), I was able to connect colleagues with their counterparts in Finland.

Travel Report Kerstin Katzlberger

I spent an interesting week at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in the Netherlands. Breda is a small historic town in the south of the country, full of bicycles and coffee houses. BUas has been a consistent partner of FHWien since 2017; we regularly send students from the Tourism & Hospitality Management Study Programs, Journalism & Media Management Study Programs and Communication Management Study Programs to Breda for their semester abroad.

At the International Week at BUas, staff members from International Offices from Europe to Mexico met and discussed current challenges in student mobility. The host organized workshops and lectures, especially on the topics of digitalization, diversity & green travel, and new mobility formats. In addition, BUas presented its study programs and special features of its curriculum design in connection with the impressive campus architecture.

Participation in staff weeks intensifies collaboration with participating partners, opens new avenues of cooperation and strengthens FHWien der WKW’s international network.
