In September 2024, Endowed Chair Cornelia Dlabaja was present at two important events that dealt with the challenges and opportunities of urban and regional development. Her expertise in sustainable urban and tourism planning made her a sought-after panelist who contributed her experience.
The first event took place as part of the “Interventa” symposium. Here, Dlabaja took part in a panel discussion on the topic of “Identity / The fabrication of a new reality – on the nature and future of the Salzkammergut”. Together with other experts such as Ton Matton, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen and Elsbeth Wallnöfer, she discussed the transformation of cities in the context of overtourism, climate change and social divisions. The event provided a space for intensive discussions on regional identities and future scenarios, with Dlabaja contributing her research findings on the connection between spatial and social issues. The keynotes and impulses from other experts ranged from the circular economy to social aspects of building culture.
On August 29, Dlabaja was also part of the Feierabendgespräche in Erfurt, where the focus was on “Cosmopolitanism, diversity and inclusion in urban planning”. Together with Klaus Schäfer and Mirjam Kruppa, she discussed ways to create fair coexistence in urban areas. The discussion highlighted the challenges posed by migration in Erfurt, particularly regarding social cohesion and segregation tendencies. Dlabaja emphasized the need for comprehensive quality management in urban planning to strengthen cohesion and promote social mixing. The discussion, which took place at the old fish market, was moderated by Blanka Weber.
Both events were characterized by a lively exchange on innovative approaches to overcoming current urban challenges. Dlabaja’s contributions helped to provide important impetus for sustainable urban development.
