On the occasion of the “Day of Italian Research“, the Italian Consulate General in New York hosted the third edition of the Davide Giri Talks on “The perfect storm: Sustainable perspectives and cityscapes in times of climate change“. This event was organized by the International Association of Italian Researchers (AIRI).

Alessandro Melis, endowed professor at the New York Institute of Technology, organized the panel and moderated the discussion between four scientists who reported on the current challenges from different perspectives. Cornelia Dlabaja spoke about the preservation of the island city of Venice in times of overtourism and climate change and analyzed the effects of day tourism practices on the local population and possible solutions for sustainable regional development.

Cornelia Dlabaja also was on the podium at the Urban Affairs Association Conference. Together with Daniela Giudici (Concordia University), Christophe Davis (York University) and Adrian Grant (Ulster University), she explored the question “Whose City? Evolving Contestations in Urban Space“. Here, too, she passed on the results of her research work in Venice.
You will find more information about Cornelia Dlabajas research at our research website.

She also took the opportunity for an extensive tour of the city and numerous discussions with locals from the perspective of a sociologist, cultural scientist and tourism expert. These observations will be incorporated into her lectures for the Master’s students of the Urban Tourism & Visitor Economy Management program.
