Europe On Air 2024 on elections in Europe

July 17, 2024

Exploring urban metropolises and creating high-quality journalistic radio and audio programs in small intercultural groups – this is the core of the international “Europe On Air” course. This year’s course was held in Antwerp, Belgium.

The annual international course “Europe On Air” took place in early June. Students from Bulgaria, Belgium, Finland, Georgia, Austria and Spain came together to work in small groups for a week to produce radio features on topics related to the EU. The features covered a wide range of topics, including youth participation and activism, the role of young early voters in European elections, the challenges and opportunities related to EU borders and migration, and the EU’s policies on artificial intelligence and disinformation.

One focus was on the intercultural team character of the event. Different approaches, didactic attitudes and production methods of the countries were integrated in order to get to know innovative working methods. The students were able to develop their radio journalistic skills and gain experience in dealing with interview partners and sources. Participants from different European cities contributed their skills and knowledge to the radio features. The intercultural collaboration resulted in unique perspectives and creative approaches.

Europe On Air (EUROA) is an Erasmus Intensive Programme funded by the European Commission. In its more than ten years of existence, it has made an important contribution to promoting diversity and integration in Europe: participants gain a distinctly international European perspective on current issues and can gain their own intercultural experience. The exchange with students from other European countries opens new perspectives and highlights the importance of diversity and integration in Europe.
