Family Business – guest lectures with researchers and practitioners

December 10, 2024

Exciting guest lectures were part of the program of the Family Business specialization for Bachelor students in the 5th semester.

Prof. Dr Anita Zehrer (Head of Family Business Centre) of MCI | The Entrepreneurial School gave a lecture focusing on generational transition in family firms. During this exciting and interactive lecture, the students learnt about the oldest family business in the world, Houshi Inn, and discussed the many challenges of a succession process. They were also given an insight into the various options for family governance and family constitution. Finally, they worked on a case study.

Thomas Eder, also a lecturer in this specialization, was responsible for the practical approach and openly and honestly shared his personal insights into a succession process with the students. Because as you can imagine, theory and practice sometimes diverge.

In the summer term of 2025, as a part of the specialization the world’s largest international family business student conference will be organized by the study program Management – Entrepreneurship together with students. For one week, 150 students and professors will focus on topics relating to family businesses. There will be company visits, lectures by family entrepreneurs, presentations by students and a social program.
