What is the importance of river shipping in Austria? What challenges and trends is this industry currently facing? Bachelor students learned about this in the course of the specialization “Management of Touristic Modes of Transport” during an excursion into the beautiful Wachau region.
At the end of September, it was time for our students of the Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management to “Cast off!” as they sailed on a Brandner cruise ship along the Danube from Krems to Melk and back again.
The excursion began with a presentation by Managing Director Barbara Brandner, who gave the students an insight into the nature of river cruises. She explained the importance of this segment for tourism and presented the current challenges facing the industry.
During the trip through the picturesque Wachau region, the students were not only able to enjoy the scenery, but also to experience first-hand how a river ship is operated. They were allowed to take a look behind the scenes and learned interesting details about ship operation, logistics and safety precautions.
Many thanks at this point to Brandner Schifffahrt and especially to Managing Director Barbara Brandner for the invitation and the valuable insights. The trip was accompanied by lector Gaby Tragschitz-Köck.
