From blueprint to luxury hotel: a visit to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel

October 21, 2024

Katharina Schwab gave her fellow students an exclusive look at the construction site of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Riemergasse.

This project has several special features: Dealing with the listed Art Nouveau building, which once housed the Vienna Commercial Court, places high demands on the construction work and the choice of materials. In addition, the complex requirements of a luxury hotel and private penthouses had to be considered in the planning.

Katharina Schwab, site manager at Hagenauer GmbH and Master student on the Real Estate Management program, explained to the students how it was possible to preserve the historic building fabric while ensuring the comfort and functionality of a modern hotel.

In addition to the 138 guest rooms and suites, further exclusive facilities such as event rooms, a spa area with swimming pool, staff rooms, an in-house bakery, several kitchens and a restaurant are planned.

Another special feature is the 25 luxury branded residences with gallery levels, whose residents will enjoy direct access to the hotel facilities. The future residents will benefit from an all-round service, high security measures, their own internal lifts and the exquisite design by interior designer Martin Goddard.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2025. The Brisen Group is the property investor and project developer responsible for the construction project. In future, both the Brisen Group and the Mandarin Oriental hotel group will be responsible for operational management.

Thanks to Katharina Schwab for the very interesting tour and the insight into such a highly complex project.
