How to start a business?

June 12, 2024

For many of our students, starting their own business is THE goal! They learn how to do this in theory on the Bachelor’s Program Management – Entrepreneurship. But what does it look like in reality? What challenges can be expected and overcome? Three alumni discussed this in a “Founders Talk”.

Head of program Manfred Schieber invited three successful entrepreneurs to FHWien der WKW for a discussion. What are the motives for starting a business? How did the degree program at FHWien der WKW support their start-up? What were the biggest hurdles and the best successes? What should you pay particular attention to? The moderator asked the founders these and other questions on behalf of the students.

Alina Opherden set up her own business as a virtual assistant under the name Die Zeitfee and offers her services to other entrepreneurs and virtual assistants. In doing so, she provides her customers with one thing above all: time, so that they can concentrate on their own core business. As a tourism management graduate of FHWien der WKW, she was able to build up her online business and now accompanies people on their way to self-employment as a start-up consultant.

Constantin Simon is also a graduate of the program. The successful multi-founder (Scarosso, Nixe Bier and Lieferei) works as an external lecturer at FHWien der WKW and passes on his start-up expertise to SMEs and start-ups as a freelance consultant. He advises on the transition to sustainable business models and products as well as communication strategies.

Christoph Kern is an alumnus of the Management – Entrepreneurship degree program and CEO & Co-Founder of CareFact. CareFact’s core product is a talking AI teddy bear for senior citizens. It is designed to enrich the lives of older people with entertainment, support and intelligent interaction. Christoph Kern is currently in the start-up phase with this company and was therefore able to give the students very exciting insights into the preparation and implementation of a start-up.

After the panel discussion, the founders were available to the students for questions and networking. Many thanks for the lively and inspiring discussion!
