The second project week of this year’s International School of Multimedia Journalism (ISMJ) took place in the Polish capital Warsaw. For one week, participants from four countries explored Europe and created their own multimedia reports on the theme “This is (also) Europe!”.
International cooperation in Warsaw
The second project week of the International School of Multimedia Journalism (ISMJ) took place in Warsaw from July 1-5, 2024. Participants from Denmark, Georgia, Austria and Ukraine met again to focus on the topic of Europe. While in previous years the project week took place at the partner university in Lviv, Ukraine, this year it was organized for the first time at the invitation of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw.
Diverse perspectives on Europe
Important questions were raised with a view to the European Parliament elections in 2024: What does it mean to be European today? How do participants from different countries see Europe? What is the impact of diversity, migration, climate change and conflict on the European identity?
Creative Projects and Intercultural Exchange
During the week, participants worked on a variety of multimedia projects. They researched and developed reports on current European issues:
- The new “reality” in European politics: Investigating deepfakes in election campaigns.
- Are we safe in Europe?: Poland’s role in the European security structure.
- OFFTRACK: Expensive tickets and the future of passenger transportation in the EU: Challenges of cross-border travel in Europe.
- From Fields To Cities: Rural-to-urban migration in Poland: Growing disparities between urban and rural areas.
The project week ended with a presentation of the work produced and a joint dinner where local specialties were sampled. This provided another opportunity for intercultural exchange and networking.
Conclusion: New Perspectives on Europe
The second ISMJ 2024 project week was a success. The participants were able to develop their skills in multimedia journalism, gain intercultural experience and build international networks. These experiences broaden the young journalists’ horizons and offer new perspectives on European issues.
Further impressions and pictures of the project week are available from our partners at the OeAD Cooperation Office in Lviv. Many thanks to the Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw for the invitation and local support.
