On June 18, 2019, students from the 2nd semester of the Bachelor’s study program Tourism & Hospitality Management went on a field trip to the Waldviertel region. This field trip was the final highlight of the F&B Management lectures and gave practical insights into how local producers work.
Firstly students visited Lower Austria’s private brewery in Zwettl. They had a guided tour through Austria’s most modern production site and got to know how beer is brewed there. After a 3D presentation, students had a delicious beer tasting.
Next stop was at the poppy seed village “Mohndorf Amschlag”, where host Mr. Neuwiesinger welcomed the group and guided them through the village talking about the importance of poppy seeds for the Waldviertel and their activities at the “Mohndorf Amschlag”. After an extensive tasting of a broad variety of poppy seed titbits the group drove on to Dürnstein in the Wachau Region.
In the winery „Domäne Wachau“ they had a guided tour through the vineyard as well as profound insights in wine production, the terroir of the Wachau region and the latest innovation at the vinery, distillation. The tour ended with an excellent tasting of their famous wines Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd as well as a natural wine (MTX) accompanied by the typical bread roll “Wachauer Laberl”.
Great atmosphere and perfect weather conditions made this field trip a wonderful experience. Thanks to the accompanying lecturers Bernhard Koch und Didier El-Senosy. We wish all of you great summer holidays!
