Public Value Lecture #05: Digital transformations at ORF and the development of new formats

The fifth edition focused on the topic of digitalisation and the development of new formats. The expert guest was Wolfgang Geier, Editor-in-Chief of ORF 1.

On Monday, 12.04.2021, Wolfgang Geier, Editor-in-Chief of ORF 1, was the guest at the fifth edition of the exciting event series organised by the Journalism & Media Management Study Programs. With a focus on “Digitalization on ORF and the development of new formats for young target groups”, interested students but also external participants were able to exchange ideas via ZOOM.

The discussion together with Konrad Mitschka (ORF Public Value Competence Centre) and Gisela Reiter (Research & Teaching Associate at FHWien of WKW) focused on the challenges for ORF due to digitalisation and the different design of journalistic contributions on different online platforms. The planning and design of the ORF Player as well as the future developments of the ORF in the course of the “TransFORM” processes for better and longer use of public service content were discussed lively.

About Wolfgang Geier:

Wolfgang Geier has been working for the ORF since 1996. In 1999 he moved from Tyrol to Vienna to the radio domestic politics department of Österreich 1 (Ö1) and in 2001 to the television domestic politics department of ZIB 2. Since 2005 he has presented the ORF Press Hour, and since 2006 he has been editor of Zeit im Bild. From 2009 to 2013, he reported as ORF’s foreign correspondent from Washington, D.C., after which he became deputy department head of domestic politics at ORF television.
