With these exciting questions in their luggage, the students from the Bachelor’s Program Tourism & Hospitality Management set off for the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI) with lecturer Gaby Tragschitz-Köck.

As part of their “Mobility” specialization, the students were given exclusive insights into the strategies and initiatives surrounding sustainable mobility in Austria. Alexandra Dörfler, Head of the Department for Active Mobility and Mobility Management, presented projects and strategies of the City of Vienna that aim to promote active forms of transportation such as walking and cycling. These approaches should not only be environmentally friendly, but also contribute to the quality of life of the population.

Martin Eder, who is responsible for the “Cycling & Walking Master Plan”, also reported on the effects and challenges of cycle tourism and provided insights into the mountain bike strategy. He showed how sustainable mobility initiatives can be specifically combined with tourism offers. His comments on the promotion of cycling as a climate-friendly alternative and the development of mountain bike trails in Vienna in line with nature conservation guidelines were particularly interesting.
