Salzkammergut – The region of turquoise lakes and mountains

July 9, 2018

2nd semester tourism students were on a mission to visit five lakes in two days

20 students from the Bachelor’s study program “Tourism & Hospitality Management” went on a field trip to one of Austria’s most important tourism destinations: Salzkammergut.

On the first day, we took a boat on the Attersee to Unternach for an expert talk hosted by Georg Baumann (the mayor) and Petra Wieder, who is a representative of the destination’s marketing organization.

Afterwards, we had a guided tour through the Schlosshotel Mondsee to get a closer look at how banquets and events are organized there.

The next day we rode the Schafbergbahn – the steepest cogwheel railway in Austria – up to the Schafberg, and enjoyed the fantastic view of all the five lakes.

Then we visited the congress center in St. Wolfgang to experience the success factors and challenges of meetings and congresses at this venue.

As a closing highlight, we visited Castle Orth, a filming location used for a famous Austrian TV show.

We would like to thank the team for organizing this special field trip and Claudia Szivatz-Spatt as an accompanying lecturer!
