Start of study program in Schladming

September 13, 2024

How does a tourism degree program start its first semester? With an excursion to touristic highlights, of course! From the RedBull Ring in Spielberg, we went to various hotels and catering establishments and to the Planai, the Hochwurzen and, as the grand finale, to the Dachstein.

The very first week of the program, at the beginning of September, was a tough one: over the course of four days, the students visited a wide range of tourism businesses. So they not only got to know their field of study in practice, but also their new fellow students. In addition to visits and lectures, the program also included team-building workshops and initial group work.

Styria as a tourist destination

On the way to Schladming, the first stop was made at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. After a guided tour of the ring and the grandstand, we continued to the JUFA Schladming. The next day started with two hotel tours (Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming & Sporthotel Royer). We then took the cable car up the Planai and into Hopsi Land. There, a hiking trail leads past various play stations for young and old. The first stop was the Schafalm, where the students listened to a presentation about the Planai-Hochwurzen cable cars. This was followed by a guided tour of the famous Hohenhaus Tenne and a presentation by the Schladming-Dachstein TVB

We then climbed high up to the Dachstein with phenomenal views. At the Mandlberggut, the students were able to calm their nerves with a tasting of fine spirits. The crowning glory was the descent from the Hochwurzen on mountain go-karts and the extremely creative presentations of the first group work on tourism topics.

Thanks to our partners who made this trip so unique. Through the visits and presentations, our students were able to familiarise themselves with local tourism at first hand.
