What a start for our Tourism & Hospitality Management students! The first semester startet with an excursion to Schladming and the surrounding area. The trip took them to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, to various hotels and restaurants, up the Planai and Hochwurzen, and to Hallstatt. This gave our students the opportunity to get to know local tourism first-hand right at the beginning of their studies.
The very first week of their studies, at the beginning of September, was a real challenge: they spent four days visiting a wide variety of tourism businesses. The first-year students not only got to know their field of study in practice, but also their new fellow students. In addition to tours and lectures, the program also included team building workshops and group work.
Touristic highlights in Styria
On the way to Schladming, a first stop was made at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. After a guided tour of the Ring and the grandstand, the tour continued to the JUFA Schladming. The next day started with three hotel tours. Afterwards we took the cable car up to the Planai and to Hopsi Land. There, a hiking trail leads past a wide variety of play stations for young and old. The first stop was the Schafalm, where the students listened to a presentation about the Planai-Hochwurzen lifts.
Visiting Salzkammergut
The students also turned their attention to the challenges of tourism in the very first week. The third day of the excursion started with a visit to Hallstatt and a presentation by the Dachstein Salzkammergut Tourism Association. The crowning finale was the ride with Mountain GoKarts from the Hochwurzen and the extremely creative presentations of the first group work on tourism topics.
