The first Strategy Morning 2020 on the topic of “Digitization in the Health Care System” took place on March 3, 2020. Anita Rieder (Vice Rector MedUni Vienna), Matthias Lichtenthaler (Federal Computing Centre) and Christine Stadler-Häbich (Roche) presented interesting approaches to the digital transformation in the health care system.

The digital transformation of the health care system has long been reality. Just as hardly anyone today can imagine life without a smartphone, the health care system is also facing far-reaching changes, which pose numerous challenges for patients, health professionals, education and system designers. At the same time, new possibilities are being opened up, such as telemedical applications, innovation in the field of therapy optimisation or the worldwide availability of information.

The Research Cluster of the FHWien of the WKW invited selected experts on 3.3.2020 to look at the topic from different angles. The top-class lecturers, Univ. Prof. Dr.med Anita Rieder, Vice Rector for Teaching and Head of the Centre for Public Health and the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Matthias Lichtenthaler, Head of Digital Government & Innovation at Bundesrechnungszentrum GmbH and Christine Stadler-Häbich, Director Business Development at Roche Diagnostics Austria GmbH, who stood in for José Hensellek, who was unable to attend, were able to provide exciting insights into the topic both from the perspective of a university training centre and from the perspective of the private and public sectors.

In her presentation, Anita Rieder, Vice Rector for Education, addressed the requirements for the training of future physicians in connection with the digital transformation. She also gave an overview of European and national strategies for training future-proof doctors for a digital society. Christine Stadler-Häbich presented Roche’s approach to improving diagnostics through the digital transformation towards personalised medicine and highlighted the opportunities for patients. Matthias Lichtenthaler provided information on the proactive and highly secure design of the interaction between medical staff, nursing staff and patients from the perspective of the Federal Audit Office and on the challenges associated with the anonymisation of patient data and the associated data quality.

Among the numerous guests were Andrea Kdolsky (former Minister of Health, Head of Department of Health at the University of Applied Sciences St.Pölten), Günter Rauchegger (Managing Director ELGA GmbH) and Helmut Naumann (Head of Economic Policy WKW). Organisations such as Gesundheit Österreich GmbH, ITSV GmbH or the umbrella organisation of social insurance carriers were also represented by top-class guests and took advantage of the opportunity to network at the buffet.
