Student Project: Focus on Visitor Economy Management

January 22, 2025

As part of the Master’s program in Urban Tourism & Visitor Economy Management, students created videos that get to the heart of the topic of visitor economy management (VEM).

The task was to explain in a maximum of three minutes what VEM is, how it differs from traditional tourism and what challenges cities have to overcome in the field of tourism. The work of Stephan Körösszegi from Hungary and Martin Davreux from Belgium deserve special mention. Their videos are characterized by a high level of creativity, a clear structure and a vivid presentation of the complex topic of “Visitor Economy”. Their videos are linked here:

“I was really impressed by the quality of the videos,” says lecturer Petra Stolba. “They show that the students have not only understood the complex topic of the visitor economy but can also convey it in an exciting way.”

What is visitor economy management?

In short, the visitor economy goes beyond pure tourism and looks at the entire value chain generated by national and international visitors. It is about developing cities sustainably and at the same time meeting the needs of visitors as well as residents and businesses.
