Students conduct research project on behalf of karriere.at about online job searches

January 30, 2018

In the past year, students from PWOE have examined the trends in the online job search with qualitative and quantitative methods

During the course “Business Research 2” in the winter semester 2017/18, students from the study area Human Resources & Organization worked intensively on the question of which trends can be observed in online job searches. The students researched which behavior patterns can be observed and what preferences can be described regarding online job searches.

The results confirmed the client’s suspicions and provided interesting new findings. Although online media is the preferred method for job searches, many applicants still use traditional print search channels. The structured design of the advertisements, the high quality of the advertisements, the search and filter functions of the respective job platform, but also aspects such as the consideration of a gender-neutral language in the job ads were looked at. The latter is particularly important for women. Besides, it could be shown that especially authentic job videos, i.e. short online videos about the activities of the respective advertised position in advertisements, can lead to a higher number of applicants.

Christoph Weissenböck (Strategic communications manager, karriere.at) discussed the results with the students and possible recommendations for action for the practice.
