As part of the specialization “Tourist Transport” of our Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management our students visited the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and its wind tunnel in the 21st district.
In Floridsdorf there is a huge facility, the climatic wind tunnel, which can expose vehicles to a wide variety of environmental influences. Here, ÖBB trains are regularly exposed to snow, rain, ice, fog, storms and heat. A train must be able to withstand all of this without having to compromise on safety, durability, energy efficiency and comfort.
In November, the students of our Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management were given an insight into the safety testing and maintenance of railway vehicles during an excursion to ÖBB and the wind tunnel. This showed how meticulously ÖBB works to ensure the durability and safety of its trains. After all, rail transport is not only one of the most sustainable means of transport, but also one of the safest.
Many thanks to ÖBB and to our lecturer Gabriele Tragschitz-Köck for this interesting excursion!
