What exactly do auditing processes look like? What role do they play in company financial statements? Representatives from EY Ernst & Young answered these questions in a dynamic discussion with students on the Bachelor’s degree program in Finance, Accounting and Taxation.
The two experienced auditors, Sabrina Nimmervoll and Thomas Schmerlaib, guided the students through a case study involving the annual financial statements of an Austrian industrial company. In their presentation, they were able to convey complex content in an understandable way and report on the practical work of auditing processes.
Following the presentation, the students worked in groups on various tasks relating to the auditing process. Analytical thinking and teamwork were required as they worked through the annual financial statements in detail. Here, the students were able to apply the understanding of financial statements they had already acquired during their studies and develop solutions together.
From theory to practice
The crowning finale was the group presentations in which the results were presented. The subsequent discussion on the significance of materiality criteria in auditing practice was lively and thought-provoking. The students not only had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, but also to exchange opinions and gain new perspectives.
Overall, this guest lecture was a valuable experience that not only provided students with theoretical knowledge but also fostered practical skills and prepared them for their future professional challenges.
