November 7, 2024

Students of the Bachelor’s program in Tourism & Hospitality Management were able to experience UEG Week 2024 in Vienna up close in October. This event – Vienna’s largest medical congress – offered a deep insight into the complex world of congress organization as part of the ‘Event & Congress Design’ specialization.

With around 12,000 participants at the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Centre and online, UEG Week is a truly mammoth project. The organization of such a congress places the highest demands on planning, coordination and flexibility. Lecturer Michaela Schedlbauer-Zippusch was able to look behind the scenes with her students and provide unique insights into the organization of the congress.

Challenges and Characteristics

In addition to logistics and technology, the coordination of speakers, the provision of information materials and audience management are a particular challenge when it comes to ensuring that the event runs smoothly with such many participants. In addition, the specific needs of participants from the medical field must be catered for.

Another aspect that plays a special role at UEG Week is the topic of sustainability. The organizers are actively committed to making the congress environmentally friendly, for example by avoiding the use of disposable materials and reducing the amount of printed material.

Many thanks to Michaela Schedlbauer-Zippusch for this special excursion!
