Insights into the labor market of the future with the deputy manager of AMS Lower Austria.
On May 26, we said “Welcome to Alumni Talk!” for the last time this semester.
Around 40 students, alumni and staff at FHWien der WKW came together to learn more about the labor market of the future from Michaela Vorlaufer. The alumna of the former Wissensmanagement study program and current student of the International MBA in Management & Communications is the deputy manager of AMS Lower Austria and is passionate about labor market issues.
Work can be a very emotional topic. Existential livelihoods depend on it and unemployment is still sometimes associated with shame – a deplorable state of affairs, says Vorlaufer. Our speaker used current figures to show the dynamics of the labor market and that the situation of suddenly being a customer of the AMS can affect any of us.
The expert explained how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the supply and demand for jobs. Many people lost their supposedly secure jobs, but there were also positions throughout the crisis that could not be filled due to workforce shortage.
The graduate talked about the areas in which there will be an increased demand for workers in the future, which skills will be in demand and how the internship and job search will work even in this time of crisis.
In the concluding Q&A session, the participants’ questions ranged from the topic of young mothers on the labor market to the matching processes of the AMS.
An important conclusion that Michaela Vorlaufer particularly emphasised to the audience: activities and contents are developing faster and faster. Therefore, one should never stop learning, because further education is the key to remaining in demand as a worker.
We would like to thank the numerous speakers and participants of the Alumni Talks in summer semester 2021! We now say goodbye for the summer break and look forward to seeing you again at the next Talks in autumn. Stay tuned!
