The new “EduSpace” is located just a few minutes’ walk from the campus of the university of applied sciences. It is scheduled for completion in late 2024.
Vienna, June 29, 2022 – FHWien der WKW is getting an additional location. It will bear the name “EduSpace” and offer a state-of-the-art ambience for studying and working. The building is located in Lustkandlgasse in Vienna’s 9th district and is very well connected to public transport – like the campus at Währinger Gürtel 97. By expanding its space, the university of applied sciences, which specializes in management and communication, is responding to the strong interest in its study programs and continuing education programs.
On June 2, 2022, the lease was signed by FHWien der WKW and the real estate company PRISMA. It owns the building, whose adaptation is scheduled for completion in late 2024. PRISMA will be responsible for converting the building into an educational location.
The EduSpace will be climate-friendly
The EduSpace will be designed to be particularly energy-efficient. State-of-the-art solar systems and heat pumps, for example, are planned. Thanks to its favorable location, there is no need for energy-intensive full air conditioning in the building.
Just a few steps to the nearest subway station
“Our future EduSpace is located in Lustkandlgasse in Vienna-Alsergrund at the corner of Nussdorfer Gürtel,” informs Michael Heritsch, the CEO of FHWien der WKW. “This location is ideal because our campus at Währinger Gürtel is only a few hundred meters away. The EduSpace will thus be within a few minutes’ walk from the main building.” This will enable close exchange within the university of applied sciences, he added. It will be even faster to get from the EduSpace to the U6 Nussdorfer Straße subway station, which is within sight. This guarantees an optimal connection to the public transport network.
Learning zones for students, space for research and e-learning
The EduSpace will house research institutes as well as the Department of Digital Economy and the Teaching & Learning Center of FHWien der WKW. The latter includes the Competence Center for E-Learning, which supports lecturers in online teaching. Learning zones will be set up for students. “Offering our students an environment that promotes their learning success is very close to our hearts,” explains FHWien’s CEO Michael Heritsch. “This includes learning zones where they can devote themselves entirely to their studies – alone or in groups.” Equally important, he says, is enabling lecturers to use digital technologies. “Because even after Corona, online teaching will remain an important channel alongside face-to-face teaching,” Heritsch is convinced.
Intertwined use of campus and EduSpace
The proximity to the large, state-of-the-art main campus makes it possible to use both buildings. For example, students preparing for exams or presentations will find quiet retreats in the EduSpace. In addition, new room concepts and didactic innovations will be tested there, which will then also be used at the main campus.
The Vienna Management Academy will be based in the EduSpace
The Vienna Management Academy will also move into the EduSpace. Under the umbrella of this new brand, FHWien der WKW has been offering its continuing education programs for professionals since February 2022. In the future, this line of offerings will be expanded – with a focus on the topics of management, communication and marketing, digital transformation, sustainability and real estate. This reflects the growing interest in academic continuing education programs that make people fit for their next career leap. In addition, FHWien der WKW is continuously expanding its portfolio of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs: In fall 2022, the new Master’s program in Digital Innovation Engineering will start for the first time – FHWien’s second study program at the interface of digital technology and business.
“Quality space for education and research”
Bernhard Ölz, CEO of PRISMA Unternehmensgruppe, says about the collaboration with FHWien der WKW on the EduSpace: “Following our locations in Dornbirn and Salzburg, we are now also pleased to develop quality space for education and research in Vienna in a resource-saving manner and, with FHWien der WKW as a long-standing partner, to make a significant contribution to the future of this and future generations.”
