New Continuing Education Program for Insurance Professionals at FHWien der WKW

January 26, 2023

The part-time Bachelor’s program combines law, economics and insurance knowledge. It was developed together with renowned insurance companies. Start is in fall 2023.

Vienna, January 26, 2023 – At the Vienna Management Academy by FHWien der WKW, the continuing education program BA (CE) Insurance Management is set to start in September. The Bachelor is tailor-made for employees of insurance companies, brokers and self-employed in the insurance industry. The University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication developed the program together with the Association of Vienna’s Insurance Brokers, Helvetia Versicherungen AG and Zurich Österreich. It combines the fields of law, economics and insurance and can be completed alongside a job.

Demands on insurance professionals have grown

“The industry of insurance brokers has been characterized by a strong change in the last decades, not least due to the massively increasing number of national and international insurance offers,” explains Helmut Mojescick, chairman of the Association of Vienna’s Insurance Brokers, who co-conceived the study program. “While a good insurance advisor used to be distinguished primarily by his accessibility, reliability and likeability, brokers today – depending on the line of business – are expected to have a sound legal, economic, medical and technical knowledge.” The continuing education program at FHWien der WKW offers appropriate training and takes industry trends into account. Legal topics play a major role, which distinguishes the new program from other offers.

Optimal compatibility with the job

The Bachelor’s program in Insurance Management combines courses on the FH campus with online teaching and self-study modules. This offers students flexibility and a good work-life balance – like all programs of the Vienna Management Academy by FHWien der WKW, emphasizes Michael Heritsch, CEO of the university of applied sciences: “More and more people are studying alongside their jobs. Therefore, this continuing education program fits perfectly into our growing portfolio of programs for working professionals. As a leading university of applied sciences for management and communication, we offer students a unique and practical education at an academic level in the insurance industry.”

Matura and work experience qualify for the program

The Bachelor’s program in Insurance Management is open to individuals with a university entrance qualification (Matura) and two years of relevant work experience. There are 32 places per year. By crediting work experience, insurance broker exams or internal company trainings, the workload can be reduced, especially in the two final semesters: Up to 60 of the 180 ECTS credits can be taken into account. In the final year, the focus is on the Bachelor’s thesis and a practical project. After six semesters, students complete their continuing education program with an oral Bachelor’s examination and the acquisition of the academic title “Bachelor of Arts (Continuing Education)”.

“Tailor-made for managers and specialists in the insurance industry”

With Helvetia Versicherungen AG and Zurich Österreich, two renowned companies have contributed to the development of the Bachelor’s program, thus ensuring that this continuing education program is practice-oriented and meets the industry’s requirements for highly qualified employees.

“The new continuing education program at FHWien der WKW is a kind of tailor-made suit for current and future managers and specialists in the insurance industry,” says Thomas Neusiedler, CEO of Helvetia Versicherungen AG. “In terms of investing in our talents and positioning Helvetia as an attractive future-oriented employer, the cooperation with FHWien is very important to me. I was happy to be involved in the conception phase and am thus pleased to be a companion from the very beginning.”

Andrea Stürmer, CEO of Zurich Österreich, sees the new program as a contribution to securing the next generation of highly trained specialists and managers: “We want to create new opportunities for Zurich’s future talents to deepen their insurance expertise while working. The focus on insurance products and the core tasks of an insurance company is particularly important to us. As a multi-award-winning employer, we are therefore delighted to support the new Bachelor’s program.”
